Principal for The Day

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were the principal of your school? If I ever get that power, I would change quite a few things. First, I would change the passing period time. Between classes, I feel as if the passing period isn’t long enough. Kids in schools are inside a classroom for six hours a day and to only get 4 minutes within each class, is not enough. It’s very refreshing to go outside after being in class for so long. I project it as a change of scenery. Instead of 4 minutes, I would change it to 10 minutes. I think if passing periods were longer, kids might be happier to go into classes. Next, I would change the amount of homework given. When kids go to school, they have to spend forty minutes in each class. It gets tiring at the end of the day. Once kids get home, it’s another 1-2 hours of homework. Sometimes, kids have after school activities that end up with them getting home very late. Students spend hours late at night missing their precious hours of sleep due to how much homework they have. This drains kids out entirely. My solution to this would be to minimize the amount of homework given to each kid. Although they might still have to do some work, this work would be less and take less time. Another thing I would change would be the start time. School starts at eight and as I previously mentioned, kids are tired from staying up so late. I’ve come to notice that on late start Wednesday, those days have better energy from students and kids aren’t so tired on Wednesdays, due to starting at nine. With my power of being the principal, I would change the start time to 9:30am for every single day. Another thing I would do as principal, would be the amount of classes given. I believe most of the classes that are mandatory can be very helpful in our future, but I do believe that there are some classes that might not be very helpful in our future. For example, if someone wanted to be a business owner of a car company, why would they need to spend years learning about history. They could spend that time on things that can be useful towards their career. So, I would make certain classes optional and offer extra classes that are helpful towards their career. This way students could spend more time on their future, rather than a class that will never help them in the end. Lastly, I would change the school dress code. I understand that there are certain clothes that are too revealing, but the one thing I don’t understand is the “no pajamas.” I believe if kids dressed in clothes that were warmer or more comfortable, kids wouldn’t be so uncomfortable and would sit in class longer. I know on my own that when I wear jeans all day, it gets uncomfortable and it makes me out of the mood to learn. With wearing pajamas, it would make things simpler and better for learning. I know that students have to be professional when they enter school, but we’re all still young kids enjoying the little childhood we have. It’s not like every single time we walk into a classroom, we should be wearing formal wear. So, with my power of being the principal, I would change the passing period time, the amount of homework given, the start time, the mandatory classes, and I would change the no pajama dress code. Hopefully one day, schools understand the importance of these changes.
