Dear Mom

Somebody in my life that has been influential to me and I value so much is my mother. My mom is one of the most hardworking, caring, and supportive person I know. She’s so very special to me because of what she’s done my entire life. She makes amazing food and always makes sure I get the best things. When it comes to having specific late school items, going to soccer games, and even when I just need help she’s always there. No matter how weird, scary, or confusing I am, she accepts me no matter what. Those are just a few things that make her one of a kind. One of my most favorite things about her is how she puts others before her. Whenever her family needs a favor, she right there. She puts her own responsibilities aside to help others. Even if she gets stressed out, she makes sure the job is done correctly and beautifully. Everything she does is amazing. One piece of advice that I still think about to this day is when I told her about my best friend problems. I never hide anything from her about secrets because she always knows what to say. When I opened up to her about how my best friend broke my heart because of a complicated situation, she told me something that actually made sense. She told me that I needed to let her go, because if someone so special in my life was able to let go of me that easily, then it probably was for the better. My mom reminded of what kind of person my friend was gonna lose and it really made me feel a sort of value to myself. I realized after that talk that I needed to realize my worth and how not everything is going to be my fault. Even times I feel my worst, she’s always there, when I want support, advice, or even comfort. One memory I have of her is when she was able to lead my soccer team to victory. When my parents decided to create a team full of girls from all sorts of clubs, my mom stepped up to become one of the coaches. Not only did she help my team win many medals, she showed everyone that she was capable of doing anything even if she was a “regular” mom. It’s one of my favorite memories because I never expected my mom to do such a thing, and yet she still surprised me. I really wish others could experience the type of mom I’ve had for the past thirteen years. Her love is incomparable and I couldn’t imagine someone else. Yes she gets angry at me sometimes and I’m not her favorite person at the time, but I know she still loves me when the sun goes down. I hope she never stops because without her love, support, and determination, I don’t know what kind of person I’d be or look up to. Sometimes I even forget to be thankful for what kind of mom God rewarded me with.

20% Project #5- How To Decorate a Cake

Hello my name is Bibiana, for my project I chose to learn how to decorate a cake. My goal for this week was to print photos out and make progress on my poster. A few successes I had this week was that I was able to print clear photos of my work and finally picked the colors for my title. It ended up becoming really nice with the colors chosen. Although, I did struggle with what type of coloring material I should use. I wanted to use markers but I wasn’t really happy with the crayola colors. So I had to adjust my plan of using markers, and used crayons instead. This adjustment didn’t make it worse and it came out just as I pictured. Unfortunately I did not bring my photos to class, resulting in not being able to glue on my cake pictures. Other than those struggles and adjustments made this week, it went well. Next week, I’ll be finishing my poster and writing my script.

20% Project #4- How to Decorate a Cake

Hello my name is Bibiana and for my 20% project, I chose to learn how to decorate a cake. This week my goal was work on my poster. A few things I was able to figure out what I wanted to do for my font, but only got so far due to the amount of time to work. I designed a cute, dessert-like font for the word “decorate.” I was really happy with the font and after I printed my cake photos out at home. They came out great, but I still haven’t glued them to my poster. I didn’t have that many successes this week, other than planning out my poster with no struggle. With no struggles this week, I had no adjustments to make either. Next week I will continue working on my poster and work on some more cakes outside of class to add more photos to my poster.

20% Project #3- How To Decorate A Cake

Hello my name is Bibiana, for my 20% project I am learning how to decorate a cake. This week, my goal was to accomplish decorating a real cake. In class I brought a mini cake and iced the whole cake, and then decorated the top of the cake. One of the main success I had this week was that I learned a lot of things about how I want to ice the cake later on. One of the things I struggled this week when decorating my cakes was that I didn’t have the proper technique when icing the side of the cake. I left many bumps and open edges around the cake. The adjustment I made to fix this was to fill in the holes with the edge of the scraper. Although it didn’t fix all of it, it made it look better. Next week due to the wacky schedule, I will be working on my poster.

Favorite Room

My favorite room in my home is my room. One reason I love my room is because its very peaceful. My room is on the third floor away from everybody. It’s like one big floor but with no doors or frames. It’s very calming in there and quiet, which is one of the reasons why I love my room. It has posters all over the walls, specific movie posters that I love. The room has LED lights lining the ceiling. My closet is just an open space since I removed the doors. Since my room is on the last floor, there’s these long stairs leading up to it. With that empty wall space, I display medals and trophies. My room is mostly white and off white. Which makes my room so welcoming and enjoyable for myself. Another reason why I love my room is because it’s the perfect space for studying and doing my homework. I have a nice, white desk that’s able to adjust based on how I want it to lift. Since it’s so soundless, Im able to focus on my homework and get it done. It’s like my own tiny corner that’s all about business and focusing. I even have enough space to practice juggling up there. My last reason for why I favor my room is because how private it is. Since it’s the last floor, it has the most privacy. I’m able to hang out by my self without being disturbed. Even when I have a dirty room, my parents never want to go up an extra flight of stairs just to check. Overall, my favorite room in my house is my room, because it’s peaceful, it’s the perfect place to get work done, and it’s private.

20% Project #2- How To Decorate A Cake

Hello my name is Bibiana, for my 20% project I am learning how to decorate a cake. This week went really well and I was able to accomplish my goal. The goal for this week was to get familiar with pipe tips and their designs. I was able to learn how to create many different types of design with the pipes I was given. I got familiar with the open star tip and made small flowers around my board. I also used some of the videos my mentor recorded and added more to my notes. I used some of my free time at home to practice too. I grabbed a bowl and iced only the top of the bowl. I then decorate the bowl covered in icing to make it look like a cake. I did struggle a lot with the bigger tips such as the flower nail and the petal tip. Other than that, there were no struggles this week. Since I didn’t have that many struggles this week, I did not have to make any adjustments. Next week I will be working on practicing designs and decorations on a real cake.

Golden Girl

She was the golden girl. She was someone everyone wanted to be friends with. Her black, silky, wavy hair amazed everyone. Her eyes weren’t hazel or light brown, not even brown. They were dim and dull. Black almost, yet her eyes still glistened. She wasn’t obese or slim, she had a perfect body. Muscles showed when she flexed. Her appearance wasn’t the only thing golden. Her personality was what stood out. She was kind and hardworking, funny and smart. She was selfless and put others before herself. People hung out with her because she didn’t make dumb decisions and was quick-witted about everything. Although, she loved to make jokes. The one thing she invested her time in, was soccer. Soccer was her passion. People from everywhere came to watch her, people from everywhere came to play with her. Where ever she went, people followed. She was the golden girl. With her golden looks and personality, she even won gold medals for soccer. Yet, she didn’t feel so glitz and glamour. She was focused on things she didn’t have, rather on the things she did have. She had a good family, boyfriend, and social life, but she always felt like she wanted more. Like something else was missing, but she couldn’t quite put the puzzle together. All until she met Julia Camert. You see, Julia was a regular girl. Blonde straight hair with green eyes. Her glasses rested on the tip of her nose while strands of hair constantly flew into her face. Maybe she didn’t have a glow to her like the golden girl, or the outstanding persona, or even the most awards. The only thing she had was that she was pleased with herself. She didn’t care about what others had or done. She didn’t care about what others thought of her. She was confident in herself and was happy. She kept her friend group small and kept to her self. That was what the golden girl was jealous of. Even though she had everything someone would dream of, she wasn’t happy. She always thought less of herself and all she wanted to be was confident in who she was. Maybe the golden girl looked like luckiest person ever, but Julie Camert had one thing that she didn’t. Which was happiness.

20% Project #1- How To Decorate A Cake

Hello my name is Bibiana, for my 20% project I chose to learn how to decorate a cake. For this week, my goal was to get familiar with the tools and the different techniques for decorating/designing. I went to my dad’s bakery and asked many questions when he was working. I was able to successfully accomplish this goal and I was able to jot down many notes about methods and hacks. As well as some things I might want to watch out for. This week was a great week and I didn’t have any struggles at all. Although I did have to make one adjustment. Throughout the week, I had been asking my mentor to record videos of themselves decorating a cake. Unfortunately, my mentor forgot to take the videos and it had already become Friday. So I decided to take a voice recording of a conversation between my mentor and I, that way I could listen to the steps of decorating a cake, and take notes on the interview in class. Other than that, it was a smooth week. Next week I’ll be working on the different pipe tips and learning their designs.

My Dream Dinner

If I had the chance to invite three people to dinner, I’d choose Walker Scobell, Charlie Davis, and Skylar Damoo. For starters, Walker Scobell is an actor who plays Percy Jackson in the series Percy Jackson and The Olympians. I’ve seen his interviews and the other famous movie he was in. I think he’s a really good actor and a good person too. He’s really funny and seems to have a really good personality. He also brings a lot of emotion to his acting and I really enjoy watching him. He’s also really cute in my opinion. It’d be nice to meet him and ask him about his experience in acting in the series Percy Jackson and The Olympians. I love the show and I’d definitely would want more behind the scenes information from one of the characters and also a chance to meet my celebrity crush. Another person I would invite would be Charlie Davis from Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow. Charlie Davis is a fictional character from a book I read the beginning of the year. Charlie was a young girl who dealt with her issues by herself and kind of had to learn the rules of the world by herself too. She went through tough challenges throughout the way and was an inspiration. I’d invite her to dinner because ever since I read this book, she has always been on my mind. For some reason, I can’t stop thinking about Charlie and how the book ended. I’d like to invite her so I could talk to her more about the book and her story. I feel as if the book didn’t end up as how I wanted it to. Talking to one of the characters would help the unsolved resolution. The last person I’d invite would be my best friend Skylar. I go everywhere with my best friend and I think she would enjoy this dinner as much as me. Skylar likes the same things as me and I think she would like to meet these people too. It’d be fun to have her by my side at a dinner with new people. Most importantly, she makes every hangout fun. Overall, if I could invite three people to dinner, I would invite Walker Scobell, Charlie Davis, and Skylar Damoo.

Rad Reading-March

For this month, I read You’d Be Home Now by Kathleen Glasgow. The book is about a young teenage girl named, Emory. She was on the dance team, had a group of friends, had a good family and social life too. Except for the fact that her brother was an addict. It only took one car crash that killed Candy MontClaire, the girl everyone loved, to uncover this horrifying truth. Emory begins to face challenges her junior year due to everyone blaming her brother for killing an innocent girl. Emory has always had a problem with doing things other people want her to do. With everything that happened, she starts to see who everyone is under their thick layer and learns that people aren’t always how they present themselves. She also starts to learn that maybe it’s time to uncover who she is too and who she wants to be.

I really enjoyed this book for the month of March. I found it very interesting to see how one car crash and one drug habit changed Emory’s entire life. She saw and did things differently. It was really interesting to see the reality of someone who has to watch their brother go through an addiction with drugs. It’s truly heartbreaking to read how Emory feels about everything that happened. I really liked how the author hinted out how the car incident happened in the beginning of the book. She didn’t directly explain how it happened, she put parts of it for readers to put the pieces together.

My favorite character of the book was Joey. Joey was a thoughtful person. Even though Joey had a drug problem, he truly loved Emory. He was there for her and didn’t sugar coat anything. When Emory lost all her friends, instead of telling her she’ll make more, he told her to screw them and realize what they lost. Joey always gave advice to Emory. Page 94, “But remember this: sometimes waves knock you down and it seems like you won’t have the strength to push back up, but you do, because whatever the water takes down, it gives back. But you have to adapt or die. Now, go swim.” This quote from Joey was to explain to Emory about how even though high school can be tough, so can she. He knows his sister had a problem with sticking for what she wants. He cares so much for Emory and tries to help her through tough love.

My favorite quote from the book is, “It’s like they don’t remember what it felt like to be us. To be sad, lonely, heartbroken, afraid, sometimes all at once. It’s like they don’t remember what it’s like to be young. They’ve had a lifetime to paper over their wounds. Ours are still fresh, and bleeding.” (Page. 136) This is one of my favorite quotes because it talks about the comparison between adults and teens. Adults view teens as young kids who make life so complicated. They tell them they have everything handed to them and their life is so easy. It goes the same way with teens too. What this quote is telling is that everyone has their own issues. No one has an easy life. No one has a perfect life. Everyone has imperfections and those shouldn’t be compared. Just because a teenager doesn’t have to work or pay bills, doesn’t mean they don’t have personal issues. Just because adults have more freedom and control doesn’t mean they don’t have stress from their daily lives. We are all just individual people with our own problems.
